Home electric car charger still cheapest

liz truss home electric car charger

It’s official, charging an electric car on a home electric car charger will continue to be the cheapest (by a distance) and most convenient way to refuel your car…

Following the announcement today of the new 2-year energy price guarantee – according to Martin Lewis on Twitter – we’re in for just a 6.5% increase – rather than the 80% which was forecasted.

Sounds like – in the background – the Government will be working hard during this period on starting up fracking (where appropriate) and increasing north-sea production, in-conjunction with continuing their investment in renewables, so we can still hit Net Zero targets whilst gaining control over our energy costs.

We’re electricity only and with Utility Warehouse.

Our current rate is 26.69p a Kw – under the new scheme this will increase to 28.42p – making our cost per mile circa 6.6p.

The average combustion engine (petrol / diesel) using current prices is circa 19p a mile. Which means an electric car is 65% cheaper to drive than a combustion engine, when comparing only fuel. Every £100 in car fuel relates to £35 in electric when using a home electric car charger.

With electric cars – when purchased on a private contract plan or on a business lease – now at parity with a petrol or diesel car – this is a perfect time to switch to electric if your contact is ending.

If this is you, we’ve got a new online ‘free’ product advisor to help you choose the right home electric car charger for your own personal situation. Because it’s confusing and they’re all different.

Finding the best fit home electric car charger can be a nightmare and complex for those that don’t know much about them.

You’ve got to decide things like:

Is tethered (charging cable attached) or socketed (use your own charging cable) best for us?

Will we connect to solar panels, now or in the future?

Will we connect to battery storage, now or in the future?

What is the maximum size of charger we want?

Which aesthetic design suits us best?

Do we want the colour to match the house or car?

Our ‘free’ online product advisor helps you make these decisions, and once you’ve narrowed it down to the right home electric car charger, you can even download the spec sheet to see other features.

Listen, we’re good if you don’t buy the charger and installation from us, we just want you to make the right informed decision for your own personal situation, as you’ll have to look and use it daily.
